Community Choice Energy

San Diego Community Power (Community Power) is Encinitas' local community choice energy (CCE) provider. On September 18, 2019, the Encinitas City Council voted unanimously to form a community-driven, not-fot-profit clean CCE provider called Community Power by Resolution No. 2019-80 along with the cities of San Diego, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach and La Mesa. A core goal of the agency is to deliver green, renewable, carbon-free electricity to its customers. Community Power is aiming to deliver 100 percent renewable energy to its customers by 2035.

Service Options

Community Power currently offers three levels of service: PowerBase, PowerOn, and Power100. By Resolution 2021-17, all Encinitas customers are automatically enrolled in Power100, Community Power's premium energy service.

  • PowerBase is Community Power's most affordable service plan and offers a 10 percent discount compared to SDG&E's electricity generation rates
  • PowerOn provides a higher renewable energy content than the California utility average and competitive prices compared to SDG&E's standard service
  • Power100 provides 100 percent renewable energy for a slight premium of $0.01 per kWh on top of standard PowerOn rates

Customers have the option to receive their electricity from San Diego Community Power or may choose to remain with San Diego Gas & Electric; but before opting out, it is important to note that Community Power offers service plans that cost less than SDG&E.
