PROJECT STATUS

Construction of this project was completed in January 2025. 


BACKGROUND

The project was originally approved by Council City on June 12, 2024 and by Planning Commission on May 4, 2023. A timely appeal was received by the California Coastal Commission, and an appeal hearing was held in February 2024.  Coastal Commission approved the project on February 8, 2024.   City Council awarded a construction contract in August 2024 and construction began in October 2024. 

The Beacon’s Beach Parking Lot project involved adjusting the existing parking lot out of the bluff failure plane.  Geotechnical investigations determined a failure plane existed along the western parking spaces of the original placement.  Shifting these parking spaces easterly and out of this bluff failure ensures residents can safely park and access Beacon’s Beach. 

Parking lot improvements included ADA compliant sidewalk and parking stalls along with the installation of additional bike racks for public use and the relocation of signage to maximize use of space while ensuring traffic visibility.  Space for bikeshare docking stations was also accommodated.
