PROJECT STATUS

The project is currently underway and the inspection consultant is reviewing and researching documents pertaining to the City’s bridge inventory.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The City owns and/or maintains 43 bridge structures located throughout the City of Encinitas.

Most of these bridge structures located on city roads and highways were constructed by the County of San Diego and Caltrans starting in the 1950s though the 1980s.  The drainage structures within the City streets were constructed at the same time these streets were constructed throughout the City.  For Encinitas, these structures were also constructed by the County prior to incorporation in 1986.  For the 21 park bridges in the City, some were constructed before incorporation, mostly at current City Parks.  Most of the current trail bridges were constructed after City incorporation in compliance with the Recreational Trails Master Plan.

The City is interested in having all of its bridges evaluated to develop a comprehensive condition assessment report and a 10-year capital maintenance program to properly budget and implement future bridge repair, rehabilitation, and/or replacement efforts.
