PROJECT STATUS

Construction on the project began on June 30, 2025 and was completed in December 2025.  Temporary Fire Station #1 was funded by the General Fund with a total project budget of $2,118,000, which included the design, construction inspection and construction contracts.  The design phase was initiated in February 2025 with an appropriation from City Council for $125,000 to fund the design phase.  A Neighborhood CPP Meeting was held on April 10, 2025 and design was completed in early May 2025.  On May 14, 2025, City Council approved the project design along with a budget amendment to fully fund project construction.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Fire Station # 1 was originally constructed in 1957.  In October 2024, the Building Official for the City confirmed the original Fire Station #1 did not meet current seismic safety standards and was no longer suitable for occupancy.

In November 2024, the City Council issued an emergency declaration to construct a temporary Fire Station #1 and created a subcommittee to explore alternatives for the temporary structure location. After the evaluation by the subcommittee and staff, the Pacific View Arts Center site was selected as the preferred alternative for the location of the temporary fire station. In February 2025, Council appropriated funding for the design phase of the project to construct a temporary fire station at Pacific View.

The project scope involved the installation of a ~45’ x 60’ manufactured home, the construction of a 40’x40’ 2-bay garage, and construction of new water, sewer, electric, and fiber optic services.
