BACKGROUND
Scott Valley Park is a neighborhood park located adjacent to Olivenhain Rd and accessed from Willowhaven Road. Constructed in 1995, Scott Valley Park features a children’s play area, picnic tables, basketball court, sand volleyball court, and an open lawn. The original playground equipment reached the end of its service life. The project replaced the existing equipment as well as added additional play equipment for users of all abilities so that special needs and able-bodied children can play together. The project was funded through private donations, grants, and the parks improvement fund.
The updated playground has been thoughtfully redesigned to welcome children of all abilities in an engaging space where kids can play, explore, and connect, side by side, regardless of physical or sensory differences. The multi-abled design includes features that promote movement, interaction, and discovery, reinforcing the essential role of outdoor play in a child’s physical, social, and cognitive development.
