PROJECT STATUS

The city's contractor commenced construction in August 2024. Project improvements were completed in September 2025 on Quail Gardens Drive and along Saxony Road.

ABOUT THE PROJECT 

This project included new bicycle and pedestrian facilities and traffic calming features along Saxony Road and Quail Gardens Drive, between Encinitas Boulevard and Leucadia Boulevard.

Quail Gardens Drive improvements included striping modifications, new stop signs at the intersections of Quail Gardens/Kristen Court and Quail Gardens/Via Zamia, and a quick-build mini-roundabout at the intersection of Quail Gardens Drive and Ecke Ranch Road. 

Saxony Road between Encinitas Blvd and Saxony Place improvements included striping modifications, keeping parking lane on the west side of Saxony Road, adding bike lanes in both directions, signage, and installation of chicanes north of Paul Ecke Sports park.

A buffered bike lane along Saxony Road between Saxony Place and Ecke Ranch Road.  Improvements on Saxony Road north of Ecke Ranch Road to Leucadia Boulevard included the addition of sharrows, lane narrowing and signage.
