PROJECT STATUS

The design of a temporary facility utilizing modular building components to house Fire Station No. 6, in the community of Olivenhain is underway.   On September 24, 2025, City Council approved the award of a design contract to PBK Architects, Inc. The project kick-off meeting took place in October. The City and its design consultant hosted a Neighborhood CPP meeting on April 7, 2026. to gather community feedback on the project and its proposed design.  The Community Feedback Survey closed on April 16, 2026.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Fire Station No. 6 covers the majority of the Olivenhain community in east Encinitas. Olivenhain is a predominately rural community with an elevated wildfire risk compared to other areas of the City. A temporary station has been operating from a commercial business center, located at 770 Rancho Santa Fe Rd.  The station operates 24 hours a day and is staffed with a two-person crew and equipped with a Type 6 patrol unit.

To meet the growing needs of the community and the fire crews stationed there, the construction of a more suitable temporary fire station has been authorized that is capable of housing a Type 1 fire engine and accommodating a three-person crew.  The new temporary facility will be established at “Little Oaks Park” located at 2879 Lone Jack Road.

The new location will serve to better mitigate operational gaps affecting fire protection and emergency response for structure fires or large-scale wildfires in the rural areas in and around Olivenhain.

The new facility will implement the use of modular building components, with an adjacent canopy or spring structure to house fire apparatus including a Type 1 Fire Engine and a Brush Rig.
