• Locations may be in public right-of-way or on private property and must be accessible to the public 24/7. 

• Locations must be easily accessible to main public entrance of facility or other destination. 

• Locations should be in reasonably secure areas that provide adequate lighting and good visibility. 

• Locations must have space wide enough to accommodate pedestrian traffic and bike parking, which is typically a minimum of 8 ft, but preferably 10 ft, so that racks do not impede normal pedestrian flow on sidewalks or to/from parked vehicles at the curb. 

• Bike rack installation must not interfere with trees, posts, fire hydrants, bus stops or other objects. 

• Bike racks cannot be installed on pavers, cobblestones, bricks, custom patterned concrete or metal gratings, or be placed over catch basins or utility boxes. 

• Bike racks installed parallel to the curb must be at least 4 ft away from the curb edge. 

• Bike racks installed perpendicular to a curb must be at least 5 ft away from the curb edge. 

• Multiple bike racks must be installed at least 5 ft apart end to end. 

1. Applicant submits an online request through the Bike Rack Installation Request form below- The form must be filled out by the property owner or manager of the site (with property owner approval) *Note: If you are a cyclist and would like to have a bike rack installed at a business, please reach out to the business to submit a request! 

2. City staff will conduct a site visit and review the proposed location 

3. Approved rack installations are scheduled in batched work orders (typically 10 or more) and applicants are notified of the expected timeline for installation

4. Racks are installed and kept available for public use! 

What type of bike rack will be installed? 

City-branded inverted-U rack. 

How much does the program cost? 

The program is completely free to participate in. The City pays for procurement and installation, you provide the location. 

Who is eligible to apply? 

Businesses, nonprofits, commercial or retail property owners, schools and any property-owner with high bicycle traffic, a location that is accessible to the public 24/7 and in need of bicycle parking. 

Is there a limit to how many racks one location can receive? 

The only limiting factor when considering bike rack quantity is the proposed location size.

Where can bike racks be installed?  

Bike racks can be placed on private property (with property owner permission) and in City-owned public right-of-way. 

Are there spacing or accessibility requirements? 

The racks must follow ADA clearance and depending on the orientation of the bike racks, must be placed adequate distance from the curb. 

Do I need property owner or landlord approval? 

Yes, to install bike racks on private property, the property owner must grant permission and sign an agreement with the City. 

Who is allowed to use the bike racks? 

Bike racks must be made available for public use 24/7.
