Saxony Rd & Quail Gardens Dr Mobility Enhancements
The work for this project has been completed, which included civil improvements and striping on the Quail Gardens Drive roundabout, and asphalt surface repair work, slurry seal, chicane installation, and signing and striping on Saxony.
Pedestrian Crossing Upgrades Project
Civil improvements have been completed at the Park Dale Lane & Countryhaven/Glen Arbor/Willowspring Dr intersections, along with the intersection of 3rd & B St. These improvements included new ADA curb ramps, high-visibility crosswalks, and the installation of new streetlights. Staff is working with SDGE to schedule the energizing of these new streetlights, with an anticipated completion date of January 2026.
Emergency Bicycle Safety Enhancement Projects
The work for this project has been completed, which included crossbike green paint installations at the intersections of Manchester Avenue at Mira Costa, Encinitas Blvd at Balour Drive and Via Cantebria, asphalt surface repairs, slurry seal treatments, and signing and striping along El Camino Real and Village Park Way, sharrow markings along Requeza St and Nardo Rd, and bike lane buffers along Manchester Avenue between the lagoon traffic signal and I-5.
The Traffic Engineering Division plans and manages projects to improve safety and mobility for all modes of transportation. The division plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of transportation infrastructure, and in planning for future transportation needs. Primary responsibilities of the division include:
- Designing, installing, and operating traffic signals to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow
- Identifying and implementing safety improvements such as traffic calming measures and pedestrian crossings
- Improving pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, including crosswalks and bike lanes
- Designing and maintaining roadways, including pavement markings and signage
- Collecting and analyzing data on traffic volume, speed, and other factors
- Reviewing traffic control plans for construction projects
- Traffic Impact Analysis reviews associated with development projects
