Steps for Pedestrians

  1. Push the button once and wait for the pedestrian symbols to come up on the pedestrian signal indicators at all corners of the intersection.
  2.  When the pedestrian symbols are active, you may cross in any direction, including diagonally, to get to your destination quickly and safely.
  3.  While it’s your turn to cross, be mindful of turning vehicles. Drivers should stop when the light is red, but always stay alert.

How Scramble Crosswalks Work

  • East/West traffic have green lights. Pedestrians wait.
  • North/South traffic have green lights. Pedestrians wait.
  • All traffic has red lights. Pedestrians may cross the intersection in any direction.

Advantages

  • Vehicles and pedestrians do no cross simultaneously, reducing the chance for conflicts
  • Pedestrians crossing diagonally have a shorter wait time
