Encinitas has outstanding outdoor facilities for holding parties, celebrations and special ceremonies.  Permits are issued by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department for a limited number of hours during facility operating hours.  Attendance capacity varies depending on the site requested.  For additional information, please see the Outdoor Facility Use Planning Guide, or contact the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department at 760-633-2740 or email prca@encinitasca.gov.

Commercial Use Permit Packet

A special permit is required for any person or organization using public recreational facilities for commercial or professional instruction (yoga classes, boot camps, day camps, fitness classes or similar activities). Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

A special permit is also required to conduct surf instruction on city beaches from during the high impact summer months (May - September). Permit applications are typically made available and accepted in November/December of each year. A limited number of permits are issued for the summer months.

A Special Event Permit is required for groups of 25 or more when utilizing City parks, beaches, and trails and when an organizer plans an event which is held wholly or partially upon public property (park or beach facility) or a street, and when the event represents a significant impact to the normal use of the property, causing variations and disruptions to the normal flow of traffic, public access, etc.

The Special Event Permit applications are now accepted through Customer Self Service (CSS).

Since incorporation, the City has worked with a variety of qualified community youth sports organizations to meet their athletic field use needs. The Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department assists these organizations in meeting their needs through a collaboratively managed Athletic Field Use and Allocation Policy. This Athletic Field Use and Allocation Policy outlines the requirements associated with applying for and allocation of athletic fields in the City of Encinitas. Review the policy before submitting an application. City sports parks include Cardiff, Encinitas Community Park, Leo Mullen, and Paul Ecke Sports Park.
