On October 3, 2026 the City of Encinitas will celebrate its 40th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the City is launching a competition to create a commemorative logo that will be used throughout the celebration of the City’s anniversary. Use of the logo will include screen printing of the logo on collectable canvas bags that will be available as part of the October 3rd celebration.

We invite our Encinitas teenagers (ages 13 to 18) to submit original logo designs that reflect the City’s rich heritage. The City’s Website is a good place to start your research and City information can be found there: https://www.encinitasca.gov/community/about-encinitas

The City highly values all of the arts, and has a great love of the outdoors, that also includes a rich history involving skateboarding, surfing and beach volleyball. The City has 6 miles of ocean shoreline.

The winning logo will become the official visual identity for the City’s 40^th Anniversary Celebration, appearing on all print materials, the website and on City social media from September to December 2026. Community members will have the opportunity to use your logo for a screen-printing activity at Pacific View Arts Center, that places your image on canvas bags, the week leading up to the celebration on October 3, 2026.

The competition will open on Tuesday, July 28 and close on August 24, 2026.

A special review panel appointed by City staff will evaluate submissions, with final approval by the Encinitas Commission for the Arts and the one (1) winner will be announced through press release on September 1st, 2026.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

The competition is open to individual Encinitas teens (ages 13-18).

Each participant may submit up to two entries.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

• Designs must be original and created entirely by the participant
• Submissions created entirely or significantly with AI tools are not permitted
• Designs should focus on Encinitas 40th anniversary
• Entries must not contain discriminatory or offensive elements
• Files must be submitted in .pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .ai, .svg, or .eps format
• Each entry must include a short description of the concept
• All logo designs must be one color with options for black and white versions

SELECTION AND PRIZE

Entries will be assessed based on creativity, relevance, and visual impact. The decision of the review panel is final, and the City of Encinitas reserves the right not to select a winner. The selected winner may select an art class to attend free of charge at the Pacific View Arts Center.

The creator of the winning design will be credited where appropriate and will transfer the use of intellectual property rights of the logo to the City of Encinitas.
