    Mandatory Multi-Family Recycling

California state law AB 341 and organics recycling laws (AB 1826 and SB 1383) require that commercial enterprises which generate four cubic yards or more of solid waste weekly participate in recycling programs. This requirement also includes multi-family housing complexes of five units or more, regardless of the amount of solid waste generated each week.

Multifamily complexes must supply and allow access to an adequate number, size, and location of containers with the correct labels or container colors.

    They must also

    • Annually educate employees and tenants on how to properly sort organic waste into the correct bins, AND
    • Provide information to new tenants within 14 days of occupation of the premises.
